Compton Creek MAD Helps Make Science Fun at the Compton USD STEAMfest ‘19

The Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District was honored to join some of the biggest names in technology at the Compton Unified STEAMfest ’19, held at the Douglas Dollarhide Community Center in Compton.

The event drew out thousands of students and their families from across the Compton Unified School District to inspire and elevate young minds about their future career possibilities

STEAMfest is designed to educate and inspire the young people in Compton to explore STEAM majors and foster interest in the varied applications of technology and science. STEAM – an acronym for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics” – is largely accepted as the foundation for the global economy and workforce of tomorrow.

The Compton Creek booth was focused on science and entomology, the study of insects, but other participants – including companies such as Google, Microsoft, SpaceX, Boeing, Project Lead the Way, and Starbucks – had tables dedicated to robotics, computer science and programming, and customizable games.

It was a huge honor to help inspire the next generation of scientists and mosquito control professionals – especially students who would have otherwise considered these fields an unattainable goal. We are already looking forward to inspiring more young minds during next year’s STEAMfest.
